The 2015 conference opened with glorious sunshine Thursday morning, and though fog arrived at noon and gray skies returned on Friday, sun was with us again on Saturday. Also returning was Oscar’s Phantom Café, whose delicious food was ferried in by Oscar’s Dodge, which appears to be the longest antique car in the world. Along with food was the coffee station.

Viewing the crowds of participants and presenters, The Maven became obsessed by book bags. People carried them everywhere, like alien growths attached to their bodies. Mike Croghan’s was the saggiest, most worn looking, but holding up—no seams splitting or bottom falling out of that sturdy bag.

Yianna’s was the most glamourous. A rock star in France, she’d made hers into a painted work of art.
Don preferred a serviceable duffle, while Nyla, like quite a number of others, carried two bags, and faculty member Lisa Locascio chose a fashionable leather version of the classic backpack.

Hanging out before class were two scholarship winners, Bibi and Eden, along with Eden’s new leather satchel. The Maven assumes it will have a life of travel and adventure to match, if not overtake, Mike’s.

All us writers lug around a LOT of baggage. And MCWC is such a helpful place to unload, dust off, and efficiently repackage the contents. Thanks for a great event!!

Thanks, Theresa: I sent your comment on to the Board. I liked your "repackage the contents." If you'd like to do a blog post for us, we'd certainly like to see it. I think the "submission" button on top tells what we want. In fact, your comment might be an opening sentence. Send it to me if you feel so inclined. henri, gardnrz2@mcn.org

Writers will always be unique and have a standout personality compared to other people. As a writer, I know how a typical writer wear her dress, puts her are up on, the type of eyeglasses she wears, and all the same stuff. Everyone has their own style, but that's the stereotypical style of a writer. That's why when you talked about it, it was funny because I can see myself on them! I wasn't really expecting that you would notice even the tiniest detail!
