Submission Guidelines

MCWC’s weekly web log, Mendocino Quill, is intended to encourage, instruct, and inspire the MCWC writing community and attract participants to our conference. As an enthusiastic MCWC supporter, some well-chosen words from you on a writing-related subject is almost guaranteed to engage our readers.

We welcome essays, articles, and book reviews on the craft of writing and publishing, as well as interviews with MCWC participants, staff, and faculty. We appreciate embedded links to longer articles, stories, essays, etc., as well as pictures and videos. The number of words submitted is not as important as the quality of the post. For those who worry about the short attention spans of readers, try something between 300 and 500 words.

We are definitely not interested in promoting books or services, and we’ll politely decline attacks on writers or institutions, even if your Truth is Indisputable. Just send us writing infused with your passions and personality.  If you write something you’d want to read, it’s probably right for the mix!

Here’s the procedure for submissions:

Please send submissions to our Editor, Henri Bensussen at WebMaven@MCWC.org. She likes Word attachments and can read .docx files and other common formats.

Henri and her Eager Assistants require some time to prepare your post, so if you have been assigned a guest blog spot (usually published the second week of the month), please submit your material by the 23rd of the month prior to your posting date. In other words, give us at least two weeks. Let us know if you plan to promote your post on your own social networks, and we’ll be happy to coordinate with you.

Please include a bio of up to 100 words, and a digital photo—we can work with almost any format.

Unsolicited posts are welcome, and will be placed in the queue upon acceptance.

The staff reserves the right to employ some light editing, but our goal is to maintain a hands-off approach.
